Inshore

With the cooler weather and water temperatures dropping, the fish are on the move. Some flounder beginning their migration, try your luck down current from bridge or dock pilings.  Good numbers of trout and reds are being found on grass beds, four to twelve feet of water with a good tidal flow. Finger mullet, pinfish, copper and gold spoons, and all sorts of soft plastics are doing the trick most days. At daybreak, you could try some top water but once the sun gets up that action seems to drop off a bit. Still some Spanish mackerel around the bay, lots of mangrove snapper to be found near any structure, oh and some big black drum have surprised a bunch of us both on the flats and deeper structure.

Surf

The action along the beach is beginning to pick up, some pompano, big Spanish, loads of ladyfish, and a few whiting. You may also find some tarpon and jack crevalle migrating through.

Offshore

A good supply of live bait has showed up and the predators are here to greet them. There are plenty of king mackerel, Bonita, a few mahi, and if you are lucky some triple tail. Bottom bite is well worth it too, red gag and scamp grouper are out there. There have been some nice ones hauled in lately, you will have to try to avoid red snapper and trigger fish* as they are closed right now. *Trigger fish will be open this weekend, check MyFWC for current regulations. Big baits will help, try big Bonita strips, sometimes it’ll last long enough to get past the unwanted species.
